NRBs Should Govern Bangladesh

January 18, 2008 – 7:51 pm

While Zia and Hasina argue and blame each for Bangladesh problems like little girls, their butt buddies underneath them secretly take money away from the treasury. Tareque Rahman, Zia’s son, (Tarque Zia) goes around telling the Bangladeshis that he’s mother is the prime minister so they should pay up or get killed. While Sajeeb Wazed, Hasina’s son, got arrested several times for Driving Under Influence (driving while drunk), and carrying a handgun without a license in the United States and he’s mom said he would be great leader, NOT. How can a guy like Sajeeb, who doesn’t respect simple laws in other countries, rule and respect laws of Bangladesh? Not only that, he married a gori (shada mey, Anglo-Saxon girl); according to the Bangladeshi constitution, who so ever marries a non-Bangladeshi cannot take the leadership seat.

East Pakistan

Bangladeshis not Pakistanis Should Rule
One thing that no one has brought about is that Bangladesh has never been ruled by a true Bangladeshi. Mujibur Rahman, Ziar Rahman, General Ershad, Khaleda Zia, and Sheik Hasina were all born before 1971. Therefore, by birth they were Pakistani, born in East Pakistan, not in Bangladesh; they adopted Bangladeshi citizenship on 1971. Even the care taker government and most of the senior officers of the Bangladeshi military were born Pakistanis. Let’s face it, current Bangladesh is a mirror of Pakistan.

Bangladeshis Abroad
The NRBs, which is short for Non-Resident Bangladeshis, have the urge and the intention to go back and do something positive for the country. Almost every other Bengalis who I’ve talked to wants to go back and contribute something significantly to our mother country such as building hospitals, building schools at all levels, helping the GDP grow through business ventures, etc.

The NRB Gems
I always emphasize two individuals in many of my posts because they have contributed overwhelmingly to our mother country. Fazle Hasan Abed who graduated from University of Glasgow in Britain and founded BRAC; and Muhammad Yunus who graduated from Vanderbilt University in the USA and started the Grameen Bank. When the Bengali patriotism spirit was high they did so much for Bangladesh starting from 1970 to the present time. As time passed and various regime changed, the Bangladeshi patrotism decline as the youth at that time, who are adults now, lost faith in their failed leaders. But Yunus and Abed have showed that NRBs have more opportunities and more understanding about fixing the country.

Bangladesh Zindabad

NRB Patriotism
In my opinion I believe NRBs have more patriotism overall than a lot of the people living in Bangladesh. The reason for that is Bangladeshis abroad are exposed to our fellow Indians and Pakistanis and there are tremendous pride among ourselves to show off that our country is a great nation. India is doing very good as the next rising great power with their expanding business ventures and constant development to catch up to the industrialized countries. As for Pakistan they have a strong military and Karachi is growing with their investmetns from the Arab countries and from the Moharajis, but what about Bangladesh? Our beloved Bangladesh needs the NRBs.

NRBs Governing Bangladesh
As an NRB myself I believe I can be a better job as a civil servant than most of the civil servants who are serving in their current positions in Bangladesh. Some of these people who are serving are not professional and they lack the pride to serve the country that they are in. NRBs have interacted with other non-Bangladeshi people and they have seen better ways in the developed world. We NRBs have been exposed to new ideas, efficient ways of governing, diverse advanced education, and civil obediance. I stand strong when I say that an NRB can serve to be a better leader for Bangladesh than most to all of the cadidates who are living in Bangladesh.

Out with the Old and in with the Young
I may sound rude but I mean no disrespect to the elder Bangladeshis. We need new faces in the political arena in Bangladesh and the old gotta go; we need new ideas not the old fashion ways of bringing about hartals in the streets by one side just because the other side won the election. It pisses me off that in the West the regime change goes smoothly but in Bangladesh, regime changes causes deaths and destruction in the streets of Dhaka. The CTG and the military have taken a stand and showed that the hard times of Zia and Hasina are over. We don’t need to show Zia’s afro-style hair underneath her half hijab. We also don’t need hasina bitching about how she has the birth right to govern Bangladesh, because is was born Pakistani.

We are true Bangladeshis, let’s finish our educateion, get settled in our host countries abroad, and go back to make Bangladesh the next Malaysia, or even better, insh’Allah; “Bangladesh Zindabad!

  3. well, it doesn’t matter, any way. nevertheless, i can’t support your view about senior citizens of bangladesh. yes, it’s true that they were pakistani before 1971, but it’s also true that they worked unitedly to create a country, bangladesh. today you’re proud to be an NRB, i appreciate that. but how come you to be if you didn’t have a country! shouldn’t you be grateful to our predecessors for this? well, doesn’t matter at all. take care.
