Now Which Dumbass Says Bangladesh Is A Poor Country

February 15, 2008 – 7:02 pm

From the minds of arrogant people, they say Bangladesh is a poor country due to the overwhelming level of property. They say the country is poor due to poor development, I beg to differ. Bangladesh is developing at an unusual fast rate, as more innovations in society are coming about, malnutrituion is decreasing, and poverty rate is going down 2% every year. The country’s GDP is growing an incredible rate 6.2%-6.4% (depending on the source). Not only that, a lot of the money that lies in Bangladesh are not accounted for officially. With all these developments, people of the middle and upper class are already enjoying the benefits of the country’s development. Look at the cars of Dhaka to see what I mean. Some of you may not believe me, but if you look at the license plates of these cars, it’ll say “Dhaka Metro” in Bangla script.

  2. Thanks for the post. The money that required to purchase these beautiful cars went totally out of Bangladesh.

A certain sector of the population is really getting extremely rich. The middle class and higher class population really consists of 20% of the population. The vast majority of the 80% population is living under poverty.

I think the “richness” of a country cannot be determined by the growth of the economy. India’s economy rises by 7 to 8 % every year but a vast majority of the population is poor just like Bangladesh. Pakistani economy is also rising at a much higher rate than Canadian and American economy. The reason of this rise is because these third world countries had low economy to begin with. If you have 100$ and earn $200 then your personal economy rose by about 200%. On the other hand if you have 5000$ and you earned 1000$ your personal economy rose by 20%. These countries have JUST started to introduce some free market policies while americans have been practicing that for years.

Another reason of the rise in economy is outsourcing by the western companies. This is a VERY dangerous route. If the western economy faces a strain it will strongly impact Bangladeshi economy.

Bangladesh needs to take part in car and electronics industries. It needs to produce stuff that have demands all over the world. It needs to learn from the automotive industries of China and India. These two nations have started to make nice cars getting publicities through out the world.

Most of the Bangladesh industry is agriculture related such as fertilizer, pesticide etc. These stuff have no demand whatsoever outside of Bangladesh. Therefore, the export market rely heavily on outsourcing by the western nations. There is a counter movement in the US and Canada against outsourcing. Already in Canada there is a new rule that prohibit businesses from outsourcing more than 20% of the work force. If that hits hard everywhere India, China, Bangladesh etc are going to be in big trouble.

  3. You’re numbers are not accurate, “80% population is living under poverty” that’s beyond the realistic numbers. 60% or less than that are in poverty but the numbers can be way lower since the middle-class is increasing as more and more Bangladeshis are gaining purchasing power with the increasing in the country’s GDP.
