Is There a 3rd Bengali State?

January 3, 2008 – 8:31 pm

Bangladesh (known as East Bengal prior to 1947) and West Bengal, India were once together but split up by the British powers due to Muslim-Hindu struggle for power over the region. To the main stream Bengalis there are two Bengali states; however in my opinion there is a third one. The third one lies right above of what we know as the Bengal region, as the state of Assam.

Assam is an Indian state north of Bangladesh which touches the north east side of Bangladesh. The Assamese language, Assamiya is very similar to Sylheti. I listened to few Assamiya dialouges and to my surprise I can understand about 95% of what they say. Both the Assamiya and Bengali languages use the same foundation of words but with different dialects, just like the differences of Indian Bangla and Bangladeshi Bangla. The video on the left is a music video from Assam, if you are a Bengali you will see that the Assamese actor and actress look just like Bengalis.

Most to all Assamese will refuse my arguments and say Assamese people are not Bengali and that they are Assamese and the diversity in their population is why there is a connection to Bengalis. The fact is Bangladeshis and West Bengalis are diverse as well. Almost of half of West Bengalis are not even Bengali descent; as for Bangladeshis, 30% of them are foreign descent.

I have yet to meet an Assamese in person, but if I do I’m sure I can have a conversation with him/her as the person talks in Assamese while I speak Bangla; we will most likely be able to understand one another.

Remember this is post is just based on my opinion so don’t get mad. Anyways, what do you guys think of this?

  7. WEST BENGAL BELONGS TO BANGLADESH
    ASSAM BELONGS TO BANGLADESH
    WE WANT GREATER BANGLADESH

I totally agree with you regarding your intellectual point of opinion. Assam is ours, just like West bengal is ours and we will take it from Fascist India, as we took East Bengal from the tyranny of Pakistan in 1971. We are campaigning for the promotion of our ideology from Germany and Belgium. Our head office is in Germany where I live and our regional office to serve the french speaking countries, is in Belgium. This regional office is headed by my deputy, Mateen Ahmed and it propagates our message in the french speaking countries of France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland.

At the same time, we are also campaigning for the liberation of Northern Ireland from the terrorist occupation of British Nazis who have been terrorizing Ireland since many centuries. My wife is a native Irish and while she is spreading our West Bengal message among her irish media in Ireland, I am spreading her message of “Freedom for Northern Ireland” among my countrymen and our media in Greater Bangladesh.

  8. I agree, but I think as Bangladeshis we have a better future if we take Assam before we take West Bengal.

  9. But there’s already a third state : the indian state of Tripura.

Concerning West Bengal, I think it’s really a pity that the Bangalese area has been devided on a religious basis.

  10. Well that is a Bengali state but it’s kind of surrounded by Bangladesh so in an unofficial way it was already part of East Bengal.
