Bhutto is No Different than Hasina
January 1, 2008 – 6:16 amBenazir Bhutto’s death caused massive protests and caused a lot of chaos in Pakistan. She is known to be the first female leader to lead a Muslim country in the Islamic world. However, with her established leadership, she has brought a tremendous amount of corruption to the Pakistani government on top of the corruption which was previously there. Her father, Ali Bhutto, who was the prime minister of Pakistan from 1971 till his assassination, is known to be Pakistan’s most corrupt leader in all of Pakistan’s history.
Former Prime Minister Sheik Hasina Wajid of Bangladesh is no different than the late Benazir Bhutto of Pakistan. Ex-PM Hasina has proved herself and showed to her people that she is not capable of running Bangladesh nor is able to prevent corruption from sneaking in to the bureaucratic level.
In January 2007, the caretaker government of Bangladesh took over power, with the backup of the Bangladesh military, in order to destroy corruption and jailed hundreds of politicians of high-level positions of the AL (Awami League) and BNP (Bangladesh National Party). Currently the members of the Awami League, who are not jailed, are pledging to the caretaker government to free Hasina. The caretaker government has ignored the pledge in order to bring justice and democracy back; Hasina will remain jailed and tried equally with other convicted corrupt politicians.
God forbid Hasina and the Awami League along with Zia and the BNP to come back to power. After General Mohammad Ershad step down from dictatorship power and gave power back to the people in the early 1990s, the BNP and AL fought against each other for power and caused nothing but chaos in Bangladesh leading a dynastic political leadership.
Hasina has no basis of credibility to rule over her country similar to Benazir Bhutto of Pakistan. Both Hasina and Bhutto claim that they have rights to rule just because their fathers were previous leaders. They both claim to be advocates of democracy; however, their actions proved that they rather have a monarchy style system than to have democracy.
The problem with the leaders of Bangladesh and Pakistan is that they don’t learn from the mistakes of fallen leaders. They commit the same negative acts of previous leaders which leads to their downfalls. Benazir Bhutto died due to many of her policies which angers the Muslim world, such as recognizing Israel; Hasina may be next in line in Bangladesh if she doesn’t stay away from politics.
